The Director is expected to provide on-site leadership of the Clark Honors College, seeking to maintain and enhance the liberal arts mission of the College. The Director will teach one CHC course each academic year, serve on CHC student thesis committees, and as an advisor to CHC students. The Director will have an office in the CHC.
Reporting Structure
The Director reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs with supervisory authority for curricular, personnel, and related budgetary issues delegated to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, with the usual administrative and faculty review processes internal to CAS. Supervisory authority for coordination with admissions, marketing, and scholarships is delegated to the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies. The Director will collaborate with the resident CHC faculty, a CHC Advisory Committee representing resident and departmental faculty, and actively consult the CHC students and their representatives on the major issues facing the Honors College community.
Administrative Responsibilities
· Financial Duties
The Director has fiduciary responsibility for the CHC budget. The Director will work with a budget manger to keep accounts current and to make projections for future expenditures.
· Office Operations
The Director oversees an office staff consisting of an executive assistant to the Director/Office Manager, a budget manager, and an office specialist/receptionist. The office also has an assistant who helps with the admissions process.
Academic Administrative Responsibilities
· Professorial Evaluations
The Director will write yearly evaluations of tenure track assistant professors and post-tenure reviews of tenured CHC resident faculty. Although the Director need not be a professor in the humanities or social sciences, the Director will make judgments about the professorial teaching in the CHC, the quality and quantity of the CHC resident faculty scholarship, and tenure, promotion, and merit pay.
· Scholarly Promotion
The Director should actively assist CHC resident faculty in their efforts as scholars and teachers. The Director should also help the CHC faculty and students take a leadership stance within the university by organizing conferences, lectures, and other scholarly events of general interest, and by collaborating with other departments and programs to do so.
· Curriculum Supervision
The Director will collaborate with the CHC resident faculty and the administration to maintain and enhance the Honors College core curriculum.
· Student recruitment
The Director oversees the admission process, from recruitment through the New Student Orientation. The Director ensures the integrity of the process. The Director also attends a host of recruitment functions, both on and off campus.
Fund raising and development
The Director will work with the Development office on CHC fundraising objectives and with the CHC External Advisory Council to maintain and strengthen outreach to CHC alumni.
Communication with the University at Large
The Director will be responsible for recruiting and signing faculty-at-large, who will participate, quarter by quarter in the HC core curriculum. The Director will also work, along with the resident faculty, to build scholarly relationships with the departments across the University.
