In many disciplines, the studio and laboratory are fundamental. What would the laboratory sciences be without lab, or the studio arts without studio? In such fields, studio and lab name both places and practices. In this course, we investigate the spatial and epistemological frameworks of the studio and the laboratory from a historical perspective. We ask what the humanities may learn from the spatial practices of these disciplines, and we experiment with research and teaching in our own history studio/history lab.
