A FEW WORDS ABOUT THE CLARK HONORS COLLEGE ADVISING GUIDE
Above you will see the advising guide that students and faculty use to design individual study programs in Clark Honors College. We have students in nearly every department and professional school in the University. They are taking advantage of the opportunity to combine the close advising, small classes and challenging atmosphere in a small liberal arts college with specialized instruction in their major fields.
CHC students begin by taking the series of first-year honors history and literature courses. Here, as throughout the CHC curriculum, the teaching of writing is combined with the subject matter of the courses. CHC students complete their education by writing a senior thesis on a topic of their own choosing within their majors.
The above requirements include everything CHC students have to do to meet minimum credit-hour and distribution requirements for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree (honors college) at the University. Altogether, these requirements (including major requirements) take up three-fourths or so of their time, leaving generous opportunities for electives. For both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science degrees, the student must demonstrate foreign language proficiency equivalent to completion of the second college year of the language and satisfy all degree requirements for a university department that offers a B.A. or a B.S. degree. If the B.S.-granting major department requires more than 90 credits orf course work, the foreign language requirement will be waived. These majors include biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences, Exercise and Movement Science, General Science, Geology and Physics.
CHC students should plan to fulfill the math requirement in their first or second year of college. Note that all courses taken to satisfy CHC requirements must be graded (unless P/N is the only option).
CHC students must fulfill their Upper Division CHC requirements with honors college classes. Permission to take non-CHC classes to fulfill these requirements must be obtained in advance, in writing, with the faculty signature on the advising guide sheet in the student's CHC file.
