How Do I Get an Internship?
The process of finding an internship can be very overwhelming, but there are many resources available to you that make this process a significant deal easier. Every week, the CHC Internship Program posts a variety of available internship positions, both local and national, on our bulletin board on the third floor of Chapman Hall. In addition, the Internship Program keeps a database of internship programs available through CHC alumni, which is made available to students. For more information send and email to chcim@uoregon.edu. To help you make the most of these resources, a UO Student Internship Handbook (PDF, 281k) is available. Aside from this publication, we have compiled a list of on-campus options for locating internships.
Where to find internships
The University of Oregon Career Center also provides extensive resources to help students locate internships. This includes a library of local and national internship positions, a campus interview program, which connects students with companies seeking to hire, and on-site career counselors to assist students in the process of finding and securing a position. The Career Center also puts out a weekly newsletter of local and national internship opportunities. Students can sign up for this newsletter at the Career Center website. The Career Center is located at 220 Hendricks Hall on the UO campus.
There are several other organizations on campus that also offer internship opportunities. The Participatory Learning Experiences Program provides many internship opportunities for UO students, which can also qualify for UO credit. For internship listings visit the Career Center.
The UO Leadership Program, also offers a wide array of internship opportunities that focus on the development of leadership skills. Many of these internships are near or on campus. For more information visit the program's website at http://uoleadership.uoregon.edu.
The UO Community Internship Program is a student-run, service-learning, academic program. Based on the concept of experiential learning, CIP helps students find places to volunteer while earning upper-division college credit for their experiences. Students can choose to participate in any of the six program divisions that CIP has to offer: Building Blocks, Human Services, Leadership, Mentorship, Outdoor School and Public Schools. For more information visit the Community Internship Program in Suite 48 of the EMU on the UO campus.
For students interested in international internships, the IE3 Global Internships Program of the Oregon University System offers many opportunities, including positions qualifying for UO credit. For more information visit: http://ie3global.oregonstate.edu. Students can also visit the UO Office of International Programs at 330 Oregon Hall for more information.
Finally, many individual departments at the University of Oregon have their own internship programs. For more information, inquire at your department office. It is likely that even if they do not have an organized program, they will at least have some listings for internships pertinent to your major.
