Scholarship Opportunities for Unpaid Internships
In the interest of helping CHC students to benefit from internship experiences and in support of non-profit groups, the Clark Honors College has scholarship funds available to provide financial assistance and compensation for students who wish to pursue non-paid internships. This money may be used for expenses such as cost of relocation, transportation, cost of living, etc. Awards will be based on the merits of the project and on the funds available in a given year. Dollar amount will be allocated based upon a student’s individual needs up to a maximum of $1,000 dollars per person. Applications for scholarships secured for Summer or Fall should be submitted to the CHC office by April 5. For internships secured for Winter or Spring the deadline is November 29. Scholarship criteria:
- Student must have completed one full year in Clark Honors College
- Student must be in good academic standing
- Student must demonstrate financial need
- Organization must be non-profit
- Internship must be unpaid
- Internship must be already secured at the time of applying for scholarship
- Application must include number of hours student expects to work
What constitutes an internship?
An internship must provide an opportunity for the professional development of the student, preferably project-based or involving industry-specific learning activities (Clerical, routine, repetitive tasks, or unsupervised volunteer experience do not meet requirements). Further, it must be defined by the organization as an internship with systems in place for identifying goals and providing supervision, feedback, and evaluation.
