Students completing their thesis projects in winter or spring 2023 are invited to participate in the CHC’s inaugural Three-Minute Thesis competition. Each year, the University of Oregon Graduate School holds a Three-Minute Thesis competition. This year, CHC will hold a competition for undergraduates!
Three Minute Thesis (3MT) is an academic research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), Australia.
The competition gives students just 3 minutes—and one slide—to present their research project. This helps students learn to explain their thesis project concisely in language accessible to an audience of non-specialists (think: people with a high school education and maybe some college experience). Resources and examples of thesis presentations may be found the UQ 3MT Competitor Guide.
To Participate
Please submit a title and a 150-word abstract describing your thesis project by Friday, March 24, 2023 to Miriam Jordan (mjordan@uoregon.edu). You should use inclusive language that avoids stereotypes, labeling and pejorative comments. The number of submissions will determine whether preliminary rounds will be held on April 4th and 5th.
Competition finals will take place on the evening of April 20, 2023. Competitors can expect to receive feedback from the judges after the event.
Email Christy McElroy at mcelroyc@uoregon.edu with any questions.
