CHC once again has an Associate Dean of Faculty

Christopher Michlig, a University of Oregon art professor, was named associate dean of faculty at the Clark Honors College, a position he began at the start of winter term this year.

Michlig, who is in his third year as a CHC core faculty fellow, was selected from a competitive field of internal candidates. The position had been vacant since 2024. In his new role, he will advise and support the dean, the Dean’s Office, faculty and staff in faculty affairs.

As associate dean, Michlig will delve into the policies and processes that affect faculty members, including conducting personnel reviews, peer reviews of teaching, professional development, merit reviews, and faculty onboarding and mentorship.

Michlig teaches a variety of popular classes at the CHC that tap into the creative side of our students. His “12,000 Colors” and “Slime and Sliminess” classes have enabled students to bring their assignments to life, and he has helped others learn the nuances of filmmaking with his “Short Film Form” and “Film and Filmmaking” classes.

His experience and academic service to UO include being co-chair of the CHC Curricular Challenges Committee and serving as a working member of the Native American Strategies Working Group. He has also served as chair of the CHC Faculty Fellow Personnel Committee and was the instructional policy liaison for the Office of the Provost’s Teaching Engagement Program.

Michlig has a degree in Fine Art from the UO and received his MFA from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif.
