This course aims to guide students in analyzing global social and natural challenges and understanding the value and limitations of interdisciplinary sciences in solving environmental issues. It raises students’ expectations and coaches them throughout the term. The seminar provides a platform for students to shine and accomplish something significant at the University of Oregon. The course has three main objectives: 1) Students lead at least one structured class discussion on selected topics and how society has responded to them. 2) Students gain familiarity with scientific concepts underlying environmental issues and enhance their creative, analytical, and unbiased thinking. 3) Students conduct an independent research project (or experiential learning-based project) and present their findings effectively in oral and written form.
