Every dataset has a story to tell, and this class teaches you tools to unlock that story through thoughtful analysis and visualization. Paired with knowledge of the field, data storytelling turns numbers into narratives which can reveal hidden insights and further our understanding of the world. An effective data story also promotes education and informs decision-making by being accessible and easy to comprehend. In this class, you will become a data storyteller by learning about different types of data, how to ask relevant and testable questions, and an array of analysis and visualization techniques. All students will be responsible for coming up with an original question and analyzing, visualizing, and finding the story in a dataset of their choosing using R (a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics).
