Language is a fundamental aspect of human beings and is central to social life. In this course, we will consider a range of topics relevant to our ability to comprehend and produce language. We will discuss various topics ranging from the nature of abstract linguistic representation to the relationships between language, cognition, and culture. We will also address how different techniques in cognitive science (e.g., eye-tracking, recordings of electrical and magnetic activity of the brain) have been used in neuro-/psycho-linguistics. In doing so, the course will provide training for critical reading of experimental reports and the development of research questions and experiment design.
