Biography

Arafaat Valiani's teaching and research focuses on the social and historical investigation of community-based medicine, health and critical data studies, and his regional areas of specialization are South Asia and its diasporas particularly in North America. He also leads a collaborative team of scholars and students who draw on insights from the social and historical study of health equity and medicine in order to make contributions to the medical humanities, critical data studies, and medical artificial intelligences (AI) through research on human genomics and community-based approaches to health. Such contributions engage in scholarly and public debates concerning the role of biotechnology--especially responsible medical data governance and medical AI, in effective public health policy.
