In this seminar, we will explore music as a function of culture. Through readings, live and recorded music listening, and discussion, you will have the opportunity to explore how music expresses community and belonging, storytelling, mood and place, spirituality, individualism, counterculture, rebellion, and political discourse. A field trip to hear the Eugene Symphony in the evening on March 11 will cap off ten weeks of in-depth exploration of music and culture.
