HC 231H- Planetary Health: Environmental Change and Disease

Professor: Ellen Fitzpatrick

4 credits

This course introduces the Planetary Health framework to examine how global environmental degradation opens pathways for infectious and non-infectious disease, exposes populations to dangerous toxins and threatens the resiliency of vulnerable populations through compromised food security, and persistent conflict.  Students will also apply the ‘One Health’ approach to surveilling zoonotic disease outbreaks and the strategies and policies useful to minimizing outbreaks, epidemics, and pandemics.
