Professor: Elizabeth Raisanen
2 credits
This course is a 2-credit Pass/No Pass course that helps CHC students learn how to network and build networks in the media and communications field. This course will match CHC students with CHC alumni and friends in media and communications industries who have volunteered their time to the project. By collaborating in small groups to conduct interviews with CHC alumni and friends, students will learn about career paths in media and communications, hone their professional communication skills, and discover the ways in which skills gained through a liberal arts education (e.g. critical thinking, writing, speaking, listening, and collaborating) are crucial to landing (and thriving in) a job in this sector. Students also will begin to build professional networks by connecting with the CHC’s alumni community. While this course is open to all CHC students, students in their second and third years of undergraduate study will find it particularly useful. This course is based on the project originally created by James Madison University Professor Carl Larsson.
Graduation Requirement: This 2-credit, pass/no pass course can be counted toward the independent study credits in Option B of the CHC Electives requirement.
Instructor approval is no longer needed for this course.
