Transfer Students

Clark Honors College welcomes lateral transfer students from UO and students who transfer from other academic institutions.

University of Oregon Lateral Transfer

If you are an incoming first-year or continuing sophomore student not exceeding your fourth term at the UO and have an excellent academic record, you are eligible to apply to the CHC as a lateral transfer on DuckWeb. The application instructions and application status can also be checked on DuckWeb.

You can apply to enroll beginning either fall, winter, or spring terms. Winter and spring term admission is on a space available basis.

Please Note:

  • If you applied to the Honors College before and were not admitted, we ask that you wait and reapply after completing one full term at the UO.
  • UO students admitted as lateral transfers to CHC cannot defer enrollment to a different term. If you want to start at a different term, you must reapply.

What Lateral Transfer Students Need to Apply

  1. Fill out the CHC application web form on DuckWeb
  2. Submit CHC admissions essay
  3. (Optional) Provide a description of any accomplishments since you have been at UO

Keep in mind that the CHC curriculum is designed to replace the standard core education requirements of the university. If you have already taken several classes intended to count toward your core education requirements, please talk to the CHC Admissions Office to understand which credits may or may not count toward Honors College requirements.

The Honors College curriculum is flexible enough to allow AP/IB tests (subject to the scores) and other transfer credits to apply toward our requirements in arts & letters, social science, science, math, and second language (see UO Disciplinary CoursesSecond Language Requirement, and Quantitative/Math Requirement for more information).

Honors College courses with an HC code are not eligible to be replaced by transfer credits.

If you have any questions, contact the CHC Admission Office by email at chcadmit@uoregon.edu or by phone at 541-346-7600.

Transferring from a Different Institution

Students who have completed more than 45 credits of college level work may find it challenging to complete their Honors College requirements without adding time to their degree. If you have completed more than 45 credits of college level work, you might consider pursuing departmental honors in your major school or department as an alternative to enrolling in the Honors College.

Please note that transfer admissions are highly competitive and that preference is given to students with less than 45 college level credits.

Transfer, AP and IB credits cannot be used to fulfill any courses with an HC subject code. However, you may be able to use certain AP/IB tests (subject to the scores) and other transfer credits to apply toward our requirements in arts & letters, social science, science, math, and second language (see UO Disciplinary CoursesSecond Language Requirement, and Quantitative/Math Requirement for more information).

If you do decide to apply, contact the University of Oregon’s Office of Admissions, admissions@uoregon.edu for instructions on how to complete the transfer application process.
