Academic Community

10/26/2020

For three terms, students from Lisa Munger’s course The Mystique of Marine Mammals in History, Science and Culture have studied artifacts and objects from the museum’s collections as part of their scholarship on the role of marine mammals in human society. In the images below, Lisa’s students gather around these objects to discuss their construction and function. Community—in the sense of common ritual, tradition, and survival—is represented in these objects, and through studying them, the students create an academic community themselves.

Lisa and her students held these conversations over Zoom this year - the pandemic has forced the academic community (amongst others) to find new ways to connect and learn.
