Numerous studies reveal that many Americans, including college students, are apprehensive about public speaking, including sharing their ideas and viewpoints in public or more formal settings. This is unfortunate because effective oral communication is essential for fully-realizing the potential of a liberal arts education and one’s academic and professional potential. Through a combination of readings, lectures, discussion, and numerous speaking activities, this course prepares students to be much more effective in public speaking.
