This course will deepen our understanding of the current global environmental situation, and the behaviors, policies and politics that have brought our globe to a such a precarious situation.  We will examine the global institutions and organizations that have worked to mitigate and now adapt to a global crisis and explore the constraints that have blocked their effectiveness.  Discussions will address our ethical responsibilities towards those who have contributed the least to a warming world.  We will also search for a way forward, exploring the role that nations and international organizations can play in ameliorating the impact of this crisis.  This course will include a global simulation with the Association of Pacific Rim Countries (APRU) - a network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. We will be connecting with partner universities in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Singapore, Mexico and Chile In this simulation, students play the role of delegates to the UN climate change negotiations. Class participants will earn the APRU Certificate in Global Climate Leadership. In addition to class meetings, students must participate in the 4 weekly on line simulations.  These will be 4/3, 4/10, 4/24, 5/1 from 6:00pm-8:30pm. The last 3 simulations will replace our class meeting for that day. Students must attend all 4 sessions in order to receive the Certificate.
